PF Summary (2004)

 

  • In Oct.-Nov. 2004, the PF staff went to needy mountain areas in Ningxia, Gansu, Sichuan, Hubei, Hunan, Guizhou, Chongqing and etc. and made on-the-spot tuition assistance program investigation and evaluation. In Dec. UPM donated again and cooperated with the PF for establishing sustainable tuition aid programs to 2 mountain elementary schools in Sichuan and Guizhou after funding Ansi Elementary School of Yan'an.

  • On 26 Nov. 2004, Ms. Ying Fan, the Chinese representative of the PF, was invited to attend ‘The Rural Education Forum of China ' held by Tian Xia Xi Education Institute of Beijing. Ms. Fan made a speech on the PF tuition aid model, answered questions and shared the PF experiences of sustainable tuition aid programs.

  • In Sept. Alma Mater's Scholarship from a Hong Kong donor, Mr. Zhiqiang Fu and Shanghai donor, Mr. Xiupeng Wen supported schoolmate Baogui Wu to enter into Hebei University of Science and Technology and Huaicai Yuan to enter into Xiangtan University of Hunan in continuing their study.

  • In Sept. 2004, Ms. Huaina Hou from Hong Kong Jiaying Limited donated 40 computers and teaching related equipment at a cost of ? 150, 000 Yuan to Liuping Elementary School of Changyang County, Hubei .

  • On 2 Sept.-26 Aug. 2004, 7 students from Fudan University and Zhejiang University performed one-week practice activities at Dripping Water Elementary School . They interviewed 23 families, inquired carefully local economy, culture and the development of resources. Students made an on-the-spot investigation on Frances Rollins Tuition Aid Tea Garden, analyzed and evaluated the ecological value of the tea garden.

  • On 1 Sept.-26 Aug. 2004, students and teachers from Snowden National Senior School in Boston, USA, together with some Beijing students made a trip to Bagualing Middle School of Xinglong, Hebei Province, Beijing Luhe Middle School, Beijing Nineteenth Middle School and historical, cultural and natural scenes and organized the 15-day activity of ‘American and Chinese City Students' Views on China' at Bagualing Middle School.
  • On 4 Jun. 2004, at the invitation of the FON, Mr. Junfu Zhang (the principal of the PF program school - Kangjiahui Middle School of Jingle County, Shanxi ) and teacher Jihuan Si attended ‘the exchange and summary conference of dandelion program'. Principal Junfu Zhang made a special speech about the operating methods of program financial management and community council's supervision. The dandelion small-amount assistance program was set up by the FON in 2002 and aimed at supporting local ecological environment protection programs operated by Chinese local non-government environment protection organizations. The sustainable tuition aid sapling nursery program of Kangjiahui Middle School is one of 5 funded programs.

  • In May 2004, Ms. Huaina Hou from Hong Kong Jiaying Limited donated ? 200, 000 Yuan to Liuping Elementary School of Changyang County, Hubei for setting up a school building with area of 780 sq. meter, 4 floors and 24 rooms.

  • In May 2004, ‘Qinghai Xie/PF high-quality lawn tuition aid program started. A donation of ? 149, 000 Yuan was made to the rural school for establishing high-quality lawn of 13340 sq meter within 3 years in the future. Annual income estimate of ? 30, 000 Yuan to ? 50, 000 Yuan would be used directly or indirectly in aiding 366 needy school children.

  • In Apr. 2004, based on the successful PF/Dubow eucommia (Duzhong) sapling nursery program, the PF and the OCTB co-donated to Huangxiekou Elementary School of Jianli, Hubei for funding the 2 nd phase engineering of the tuition aid program, Bowen/PF eucommia tea farm. Further processing of the product developed the sustainability of the program.

  • On 2 Apr. 2004, Ms. Yun Zhang, a Beijing donor, donated 450 pieces of junior readings in science popularization at a cost of ? 8, 100 Yuan to PF program schools. The readings were distributed to schools.

  • The State Council approved that the Civil Ministry issued <Foundation management regulations>. The new regulation permitted oversea persons to donate for setting up foundations and oversea foundations to open representative agencies in China for the first time, was carried out on 1 Jun. 2004.

  • In Apr. 2004, Shanghai caring and loving citizen, Mr. Yacun Li adopted Bing Xu, a needy child of Ansi Elementary School of Shaanxi and supported Bing Xu in finishing elementary education through the PF website.

  • In Mar. 2004, The PF staff visited Bayan Tala Middle School of Inner Mongolia, Kangjiahui Middle School and Daoxiang Elementary School of Shanxi and Bagualing Middle School and Chehepu Middle School . The staff started to inspect and evaluate the openness and standardization of the discussion procedure of community councils, and did further training.

  • In Mar. 2004, Mr. Zhibin Lin, a Beijing caring and loving citizen, donated music instruments, watches and etc. The donations were distributed to needy school children from the PF program schools in Guangxi , Hubei , Hebei and etc.

  • On 5-4 Mar. 2004, staff from the Business School of Pepperdine University of California state, USA visited the Chinese Office of the PF and the PF program schools and investigated the functions of the PF in rural education development of China, undertaking programs and the achievements. Visitors mainly researched tuition assistance concepts of the PF, organizational structure, implemental requirements and practical effects.

  • On 2 Mar. 2004, at the invitation of NPO Service Network of China, the PF attended the seminar held by NPO information consulting center and the culture and education section of British Embassy in China . As a member organization of NPO Service Network of China, the PF maintained good interaction with other NPO organizations in China .

  • On 25-22 Feb. 2004, Mr. Yuan Zhou, the chairman of the PF friendly met Mr. Vinton Rollins, an American donor, Ms. Gui Liu and Mr. Dian Kang, directors of Hong Kong Green & Shine Foundation (one of the PF ‘s partners), Ms. Tongyan Lv, the founder of Hong Kong ‘Huitong Special Education Fund', Mrs. Shenyu G. Belsky and Mrs. Margot E. Landman from the Committee of American-Chinese Relationship. They discussed the PF's tuition aid programs in China mainland and the future development.
